The Butterflies are Set Free

In all, we had nine butterflies complete the stage of the metamorphosis with only one chrysalis falling off the ceiling and dying. One caterpillar didn't climb to the top of the enclosure but instead created the chrysalis on top of the food container.

Prior to releasing the butterflies, we discussed how the butterflies need to
find ways to survive when they leave the
enclosure.
We read the book 'How to Hide a Butterfly' which showed how butterflies can use camouflage to hide and
not be eaten by birds.

Just after the enclosure has been opened, students are waiting for the butterflies to fly to the blossoms.

The Painted Lady butterflies will be finding lots of nectar and pollen. In a couple of weeks, the females will be laying eggs and a life cycle begins again.
