Where did the caterpillars go?

After forming  a shape that looks like the letter J,

four of the caterpillars have created a chrysalis.

What will happen inside this chrysalis?

The rest of the caterpillars are eating, growing bigger 

and will soon be climbing up to the top of the mesh cage.

Observations of Our Painted 

Lady Caterpillars

Last week, our Kindergarten class received 
a container of Painted Lad caterpillars. 


Every day we have been observing the larva eat their food and grow bigger and bigger.

 










Today, we transferred the small container to the larger butterfly habitat. We watched as some of the caterpillars climbed up the walls and attached themselves to the ceiling of the inclosure.

Today we read the book 'One Little Seed' and looked at 
various pictures of sun flowers.

Did you know that sunflowers move as they follow the the sun through the day?

Students practiced drawing sunflowers with chalk and then added a colourful sunflower picture to their drawing notebooks.

This morning we were observing the osprey which have built a nest at the Calgary Zoo. Click on the photo to watch the live web cam.

The students wrote the following information on the chart paper. 

           The female osprey laid 3 eggs.

           She is sitting on the eggs to keep them warm.

           The male osprey is getting fish to eat.

Alien In-line skating

Alien In-Line has donated several USED pairs of in-line skates.

If your family is interested, please fill out the form that your child is brought home last week.

Wonderful Work Kindergarten Students!

Prior to walking on stage, our Kindergarten students were a little nervous about their first assembly. Once on stage, our young performers confidently sang songs, danced and used their voices to independently and clearly address the audience. A very valuable learning experience!

There will be no school for students on Friday and Monday is the Victoria Day holiday

Today we had an internal lockdown practice at 10:00 am. It took approximately 10-15 minutes.  During this time all external doors were locked and a sign was posted outside on the front doors indicating that we were practicing a lockdown. 
Everyone needs to feel safe at school. All our students did an awesome job of listening and following instructions. They were well aware of its importance, as it is a safety procedure that we need to follow incase of an emergency.
A letter was sent home, Please also take the time at home to review with your child the importance of practicing lockdowns and fire drills, to put them on ease that the schools's proirity is always their saftey. Thanks!
